Rainbow Railroad - No Longer Helping Americans
I reached out to Rainbow Railroad to see what resources we have for Americans and they responded with the following:
Thank you for reaching out to Rainbow Railroad and for sharing your story with us. We understand how difficult this can be, and we deeply empathize with your situation.
Rainbow Railroad’s mission is to help LGBTQI+ individuals facing persecution find safety. While we wish we could assist everyone who contacts us, the reality is that our capacity is limited by our size, resources, and the legal and political complexities of international travel.
It appears that you are requesting assistance while currently residing in the United States. Unfortunately, we are not able to support individuals within the U.S. unless they arrived through one of our resettlement pathways within the past year. Due to the constraints of the international legal framework, we are currently unable to provide resettlement services for individuals in the U.S. based on a well-founded fear of persecution related to their identity, expression, or same-sex relationships.
Given this, we will need to close your request, as it falls outside our current service offerings.
However, please know that we constantly review and update our programs to better serve as many people as possible. While we are unable to provide direct support at this time, your request helps us gather valuable data to better understand the needs of individuals in the United States. This information may inform our future program development and advocacy efforts. Rest assured; any information you have shared with us will remain confidential unless you provide explicit permission to share it.
While we may not be able to relocate U.S. individuals, we have identified the following U.S.-based resources and organizations that provide support for LGBTQI+ Americans:
All Family Legal: Offers practical guidance on steps LGBTQI+ individuals and families can take in preparation for January 2025, including information on marriage, parentage, fertility, identity documents, and more.
Transgender Law Center: A guide for updating federal identity documents to match your gender identity.
Advocates For Trans Equality: A resource for those needing to update their name and/or gender marker on immigration documents.
Trans Lifeline: A compilation of support resources for trans and queer folks navigating post-election grief, fear, and anxiety.
The Trevor Project: A guide to building community and finding support following the elections.
We wish you all the best.
In solidarity,
Rainbow Railroad
